What parts do I need to order for my tranny?
« on: October 02, 2013, 05:39:13 am »
I'm just going to split the cases on my transmission.  It keeps popping out of second gear.  Can someone tell me what new parts I should order to fix this problem?

Depends on what the problem is, get them split an inspect the tranny.

Post up pics of what you find.

Best guess would be worn/rounded dogs and or shift forks.

Popping out of is likely the dogs on the side of the gear, it's the dog on the 4th drive or driven gear that will make second slip I think. My zilla is doing the same. What happens is the straight cut dogs(tabs on the gear side) and the groove they ride in on the next gear become rounded off after years of power and hard shifting. They best is to have the gears sent out to WCR, Jerry or Matt Shearer and have them back cut. It basically is a slight dove-tail on the dog and slot. Basically locking them when engaged and not being able to slide and round themselves off. The shifting is a little different, you cannot really powershift. Some of the others can elaborate more.

happened to mine few years back.  needed 2 gears and a shift fork, plus the shaft snap rings.  it was about $300 in parts.  and i wasn't even riding it,  i'll never let anyone ride it again after that.

I just don't feel like messing with the tranny lol.  This thing sits broken majority of the time.  I'll probably split the cases sometime next week.

He just spend $500 on a "good" motor and come to find out it needs work done on the crank! So he's still on the same position just now he has two motors that need the cases split instead of one! Lol

Motoman,

I went through the same thing until I had enough good parts to make a good bottom end. Its painful but thats what happens. These quads are old as **** and usually well abused.
Ain't ever seen it......but I have heard it.
