Took the side cover off a zilla that I just purchased to inspect things. Needless to say, I am glad I did. Anyways, I have a pile of parts laying around and I see on one of my clutch side covers there is a dowel or tube for the water pump to the engine cases. I looked through the service manual and I don't see any pictures with this dowel or tube installed in either the cases or the clutch cover. And I can't find it listed on the parts diagram. Is this tube supposed to be there or is this a custom modification done by someone? I am new to zillas and need all the help I can get. Thanks.
Not a modification that's on all of them
Is it available separately or is it part of the clutch cover or engine case?
The small one is a placement dowel and can be replaced.
I'm not sure on the large dowel if it's replaceable. I'm assuming your asking because you want to replace the broken part in the picture?
I think one on base gasket is same size. Almost positive.
I just want to know if it belongs there or not. The quad I just purchased does not have the large dowel in it but has the 2 smaller ones in the side cover. The only cover I have with the large dowel is in rough shape and so is the dowel. It seems pretty close to the smaller dowel to be for gasket alignment though. But if it is supposed to be there, it should be there.
Looks like someone tried to grab it and pull it out at one time.
yup. That dowel has seen better days for sure, just like the cover that it is in. That whole motor has seen a hard life in the hands of its previous owners....
That large dowel in the coolant passage is not OEM, Somone added it at some point, should only be two small ones one front and one back by kicker.
Thats kind of what I was thinking as this is the only cover that I have seen that has this in it. And it is not shown on the parts diagram or the suzuki manual. I will see if i can remove it as this cover has had a few holes put through it in its lifetime!!
