Clutch issue
« on: August 24, 2013, 05:52:21 pm »
So I bought Jerry's 9 plate barnet clutch and 85-86 250 springs with a pro taper lever and brand new clutch cable. I have the cable adjusted all the way and and the arm on the clutch mor forward than I think it should be and I zero slack or play on my lever and not a lot of movement on the clutch arm. Wondering if I may need to get a longer cable than the oem cable or if maybe I have a 250 clutch cable that may be shorter I'm not sure. Any help is appreciated as always!!

What do you mean zero the play? I have no more adjustment left in the cable and have zero slack or play on it.

The arm for the clutch lever. Make sure the slack is out before you put the arm on. Take the cable off anf feel the play inthe clutch actuator.  Turn it to the right to were it stops . Thread your cable threw the clutch stay on the case  screw the adjustment all the way in. Then slide you lever with cable attached  over the actuator and tighten the bolt then twist thecslack out of the cable at the adjustment at the cable stay.just leave your slack in hope this help you Derrick

Did that man and my arm is forward toward the cable stay/mount in the case cover and I have zero slack. It seriously seems like the oem clutch cable I have is too short.

Yea you might have not routed the cable threw the frame right. Causing the cable to be shorter.

After some digging through old invoices Jason sent me a 250 clutch cable according to the part number. It was the same order that he got me confused with another Derrick that just happened to be ordering 250 parts and I got a 250 hub that I immediately knew was wrong. That would explain why it's too short.
