I have a 1987 500, bored 80 over, milled head,39 Keihin, bills pipe and silencer.Ordered and received a copper head gasket, says it good up to 89.5mm. After reading posts, having second thoughts about using it.
87 are known to have headgasket issues due to 1 less stud...Not positive but think getting the head O-ringed is your best bet from what others have said.I,m sure they will chime in.
Yeah, forgot to mention it does have the after market larger head studs.
Ditch the upper motor mounts that attach the head to frame. That will help as well.
I was considering that, thanks for the advice. Any of you guys go to Gordon's Well ?

Don't waste anymore time or money trying to make a copper head gasket work. The success rate odds are not very high for the copper gaskets and big studs. The rubber type o-ring type head gasket is a no-brainer

That's about 15 minutes from my house. 17 minutes if Highway patrol is behind me.
Does that you mean you live between El Centro and Gordon's? I am trying to go out there for president's day the fifteenth.
