500 piston skirt mods and lightening

I noticed on Facebook DrQ posted a picture of a Std 540 Weisco V's a modified one.

Std 540 Weisco was 402g V's a modified trimmed weisco at 378g

Can anyone post up some pictures to what they have done?

I was going to trim a little off the skirt each side of the pin area as well as cut out on the inlet side of my new Weisco Piston to assist flow.

Any advice welcomed

Because I don't believe everything people tell me, I've weighed my wiseco pistons and there is a huge difference between what I'm starting with to what he is stating. Will post up pictures later.

I personally would not try to lighten a piston by taken away material around the pin or the skirt. Just going to make it weak.

All Wiseco pistons do not have the same weight.  Be careful with your theory of the benefits of light-weight  pistons.  I have barrels of failed pistons from novice engine builders trying to imitate/follow stuff they see on the internet.

Looks like somebody's been stalking Q   0>me

From what I understand, and that is not a lot, there are a couple advantages to doing the window but from what I think I remember there was no real HP gain or reliability improvements.  (supposedly helps with cooling or something?)

On the skirt cuts front/rear skirt cuts this can affect timing/power curve but you need to watch for skirt cracking & flexing which will reduce the number of hours the piston can run reliably.

The other thing is how is your porting set up and what pipe are you running will have effect if these mods will be beneficial or they're magic fairy dust.

Motor Geek would be the man to talk more about the real scientific pro &/or cons of doing these mods.

If you are worried about weight, why not get a custom piston made from better material?
Aluminum pistons are not really that great.

a cut piston needs to match porting every builder has dif opinions Even In a  stock cylinder a cut piston will help BC at BDC the piston covers a lot of port   I got my own way i do mine  INTUMS
87 lt500r hybrid custom intake with 48 lectron, v2 reeds, scr dune port,4'' over swinger
87 lt250 mild porting, shear pipe,v3 reeds,4''swinger
91 lt250r stocker , fmf
83 RM500 build in progress

wiseco generally isnt known for their brilliant piston designs. cutting the whole side of the piston out isnt the best idea imo. alot of times what happens is youll end up with a short circuit from the transfers to exhaust. it also create a large cavity beteen the piston and cylinder wall. removing material just out of the rear portion would be better
