Steering Dampeners for LT500
« on: October 05, 2012, 07:20:11 am »
Question: I see that the Racing and Desert quads benefit from use of Steering Dampener, is there any benefit for use with one on Dune Quads?

I have moved this topic to the LT500 Chassis Section to help out others, please contact Yuzuha32 for pricing

I run a steering dampened unit on everything I ride...except the gf.

Doesn't matter if it's trails or dunes, sometimes you hit those whoops that hammer the bars lock to lock left to right. Messes up your wrists until you can do some beerski 12 oz curls.

I run an old school PEP. Money well spent if you like to go fast. Arm pump is nil.

Are these stick style dampners or something else?   I was looking into putting a PEP stick style on my zilla but the radiator seems to be in the way from proper mounting and clearance....can someone post some pics of how they have one of these stabilizers mounted?   Thanks Jason

I bought this vw type steering damper with the heim already installed off feebay. There two versions, a long one and a short one. The Zilla uses the short version, the longer one was for trx250r.

The rear mount is an aluminum plate that bolts to the motor mounts with a tab for the damper. The steering shaft required welding a tab on for the heim joint to mount to. I turned the bars full lock left, then tack welded the tab on the steering shaft then checked for proper clearance for the radiator then finished welding. Very simple. My Trx250r has mounts similar in design.

Pep makes a bolt on steering shaft mount but I couldn't locate one.

I have one of them on my LT450R. You could get 5 feebay dampers for the price of one streamline damper...

Yep, I too have the PEP stick, but a non-rebuildable.  I'm due for another one as mine doesn't do too much as tested last night.

They sure as hell help when you're driving over tracks in the dunes.
Definitely recommend one for the dunes.

Well, here is the deal, Jayson can get a good deal out of Streamline, Rebuildable with 7 adjustments, now for teh fun part as always, they dont have a P/N# for one ...........yet, they are local here in town, I will be taking a LT500 to them to get one fitted next week and to get a P/N# assigned to one for future sales, as of price, Jayson will post that soon enough.  D?

I'd like to see a steering damper for an LT that attaches to the bottom of the steering stem like one of these:

Or even better, a steering damper like you see on streetbikes that attach to the handlebars for on-the-fly adjustments:
