looking to set my zilla up for drags, anyone oever tried a metal tech swinger with a banshee carrier and drag axle?? wonder if theres any benefits in running a drag axle or not. its getting to be that time of the year to race and gonna get my quad on the right track. Thanks in advance!!

alkyzilla a Cunningham run a jjanda with metal tech. my hill frame has a jjanda set up and me new dragger for the liger/zilla will use a jjanda. think a stock zilla axle shaft with no hubs(wheel,sprocket,rotor) weighs roughly the same as a jjanda complete minus carrier.

better call jjanda if you want one. last I heard he was a week behind and shorthanded.

ill have to check them out, im just looking to save some weight anyway possible without building a drag only frame. also is there anything else i can do to lighten it up a bit?

275lbs should be possible without cutting the frame...you really don't get anything out of cutting the frame, 10lbs max.
Better to bolt lighter stuff on than take framework away.

i hope so, i already have the front brakes gone, no headlight, airbox is gone as well, very small front tires and 4 snows in the rear. the axle would probably help alot being its rotating mass and not dead weight, anything is gotta be lighter than a durablue HD axle lol.

Yeah, might as well strap a boat anchor to the swingarm while you're installing a durablue, because you probably won't notice the difference

What kind of A-arms and shocks you running?

You've got a lot of room for improvement there.
If it's drag only, consider using a solid strut on a single a-arm for the front.
If you want shocks up front, you can still get by with a simple single a-arm setup but you're a little more limited in where you can ride.
Having a shock in the rear can sometimes help launch and control.
Marvin shaws are a good lightweight option.
I guess the question is how far do you want to go with it?

Tex is correct. Depends on how far you are willing to go. Narrowed plus foward a arms? Shaws? JJ&A? Where do you race, are you going to need those 4 snows or are you going to need paddles? Wheelie bar? Spindles mount tires? I think you can only go so far with a stock bike than they become a pain in the ass. The time and money spent on a strictly only dragger will be better spent on a rigid chassis. I've learned that from experience.

What year bike are you running?

If it's an 87, I know for a fact the front A-arms, ball joints, spindles, & shocks weigh a TON. Maybe a aftermarket A-arm set up with aftermarket front spindles and marvin shaws all the way around might be the way to go?

You could do a set up like what four pokes do. Its one single a arm and the spindle is set up to use a spindle banshee wheel or a tapered banshee wheel or I guess could turn it to fit a stock zilla hub, but than the top of the spindle is the actual mount for the shaw or strut. Pretty nice looking.

my bike is a 87, and its mainly dirt and sand drags both, its already set up for a wheelie bar right now. all of these look like good ideas, theres a few guys locally that build drag chassis that could help me on the front end setup and some other things.

el diablo swaped in a factory sub frame from a honda 400ex that shaved some weight off the zilla and looks nice, search on the forum for some pics. 400ex sub frames are cheap and easy to find.

What couldn't handle the U of M blue and yellow and had to go with Buckeye colors

JK, looks nice actually like the colors, haven't seen that combo before on a zilla. Get rid of the realtors for weight savings. they weigh 27 lbs each 54 lbs for 2 tires.

the realtors are longgg gonnne, i figured out there no good realll quick lol. after the first ride i took them off and switched to itp holeshots for awhile, then i finally found some 4 snows mounted on 5 lug rims, the top picture is whats on it right now. color combo is white and chevy hugger orange that came on the old muscle cars.

My friend bought a set in 91 for his 86 250 QR. they still have 3/4's of the tread still after being on quite a few different quads.
