Reason I chose YFZ450R suspension over regular YFZ450 is because the R has a lot longer shocks and way better valving.  I had to cut off the front of the frame and bend new tubing and make new mounts.  Also had to rework the steering stem mount.  I also added YFZ450R dual piston calipers and Z400 front hubs and stainless lines.
As for the rear shock, I had to cut all the old swingarm mounts off of the frame and swing arm.  I Tig welded a new aluminum mount to the bottom of the swing-arm.
Just had the head bored.  Head was already race ported.  Also had the head decked to run race gas.
I'm having the bottom end rebuilt now.  Genius before me used RTV as a sealant between the cases.

Looking good!  There has been a few people doing the YFZ front clips over the years.

A Shearer or FTZ pipe will really wake that thing up.  Or better yet, make it a 500 hybrid  (Y) +k2

I know Jerry Hall was looking into making a pipe for the 250 but i don't think he's started yet.

Thanks Q2W.  I got a lot of money tied up in this motor or I would swap in a 500.  I even have a new rare Hinson clutch basket.  I might do a YFZ450R hybrid 500 next winter.  Do you have Jerry's number?  Are his pipes overly huge like all of the other custom pipes I have seen?  If so I'll stick with my FMF.  Not a fan of the drag pipe look on a motocross bike👍🏻

The Matt Shearer pipe isn't huge.  There are a few pics around the forums.  A lot of people run his 250 pipe.  The FTZ is massive, but the last dyno i saw makes a little more power throughout the curve.

With Shearer's pipe, you'll lose a tad down low but it completely blows FMF away mid through top end.  And it revs to the moon.

Edit:

Here is a pic

That' Shearer is a nice looking pipe.  How do I contact him?  How does the shearer compare to the Dynoport?
Thanks for your info👍🏻
