Top rear shock bushing
« on: January 14, 2014, 07:51:16 am »
Hi all,

When I got my quad, it came w an extra rear shock so I changed it out, now after riding the top bushing has much play. Would I be able the take the other bushing w/o destoying it or should I just start w a new bushing? Any how to's on this?

Thanks,
Dave

Heres a upper kit only from all balls on ebay.

This is the one I picked up. It says that it includes everything for the rear shock assembly but I havent pulled it apart to verify that.

I would pick up the bushing/bearings and not try to reuse one that was removed. They do get pretty messed up when taking them out usually.

The bottom link, after I entered my year & model said it was not compatible w my year & model.

Looks like the top one is the real deal & $50 cheaper too. Thanks for posting the link, much appreciated, that's the one I'm purchasing, Dave

Also thanks for the tip on not trying to remove the bearing on my other shock. When I heard how much it was going to be to get it rebuilt I went for a used one for now. Are all years of the shocks, 85-92, compatible w my 88?

Not a problem. From what I've read and some one will correct me if I am wrong but the 85-86 will not interchange with the 87+ rear shocks. But all 87+ will and 85-86 will interchange with each other. thats why if us 85-86 guys want to swap to the newer style swinger we need the entire set up, shock and all.

I am not sure if their are any direct swaps from other bikes. I think I read somewhere that you can swap in a z400 rear with some mild grinding by I'm not 100% on that.

91 92 is different can take z400 shock but its to stiff waist of time. 87 to 90 are the same threw those years.

Thanks for the correction that WV, Like I just posted in the other suspension thread going on right now, You can swap a 400ex spring on the Z400 shock and it makes a world of difference for us lighter riders. We have that set up on my wifes Z400 and her 140 lbs butt can candle that thing like a champ on trails and dunes. no more bouncing off the seat if you hit a bump.

I put quadracer spring on z 400 shock then it was way to soft if you could find spring in the middle  might work good. But I like stock shock when its working right.

Agreed, I'm 180 so the stock setup is fine for me too. Just need to get me a top shock bearing & the world will be back in balance.

A few quads ago we had to swap in another newer shock, so it's great to know you catz are up on the latest.

Happy to be here,
Dave
