PEP Steering Stabilizer
« on: November 04, 2014, 07:19:15 am »
Does anyone have any installation instructions or pictures of a PEP steering stabilizer installed?

Thanks
Matt

What kind of mount does it have?
The single bolt or an actual mounting bracket?

it has the single bolt.  Now I do have an aftermarket PT Mid pipe.  IF need be, I can fab a bracket if it better than the single bolt style.  Im just not grasping where I should mount it to the frame.

Attach the clamp to the stem. Then mount it anywhere you can where the damper will have full range. there is really not right place to mount them.
Best way for full range is to have the handle straight and mount the damper so that if you turn one way, it will always compress and when you turn the other it is always going outward.

They help greatly with bump steering. I have a cheap one on the banshee and it made a huge difference. That plus antivibe stem and fat bars reduce arm pump and vibration in your hands a lot.

Usally mount the stem clamp below the radiator if possible so you don't put a hole in the core if something slips. mount the other end to one of the front motor mounts on the frame, but any where you get full range is good.

Thanks guys..

It will be here Friday.. I will try to get it on and take some pictures in case the next guy has the same questions as I do!

Zilla.. as far as the anti vibe.. I have a notion to fab one up myself...  Funds getting tight with wife at college and not working.  I know of place I can get one cheap used.  Then maybe fab it so that it has the same mounting for the tie rods as the OEM shaft does.

You really thinking the anti vibe a good upgrade as well?  What other steering stems are a close fit?

The anti vibe stem is a great improvement.

If you can weld, try making your own. Get a stock stem and cut the top off. Then add an inch or so to the height and add the antivibe components. You will still need to buy the bar mount.

I love fabbing stuff.. did complete spring over lifts on my CJ, build bumpers, etc!  So needless to say, I am looking for a new project with winter here in PA.

I will check that site out.  Thanks for the info!

Have not been on here in a while..

I finally got to open up the Pep steering stab kit I bought on eBay.  Originally, it was listed on eBay as a steering stab for an 85-86.  I SCORED.. When opened, the directions that came with it said it was for an 87+!

So.. it bolted right on.. WORKS AWESOME

Im still up in the air about an anti-vibe stem.  Now.. Santa did bring me new TIG welder for Christmas, so I will re-visit this project yet.

Dangerous - Im from North Central PA.. Bradford County.

It's a Paul Turner Mid pipe. I had to repost it with high temp paint.

Got the steering setup installed.
