Looking at getting rid of kill switch assembly.
« on: December 20, 2013, 05:17:07 pm »
So I'm wanting to clean up the handle bars a bit, and first on the list is the Light dim/High and kill switch. Im going to replace it with a rip cord type of kill switch.

I was looking at them and found that there are two different types, a normally open and normally closed. So I am assuming that I want to get this right so I dont waste some money.

I think that the open or close refeers to the eletricial circuit, am I correct in my thinking?

Yeap you're right! You want a normally open kill switch. Closes when you pull the clip out.
If you need a wiring diagrahm I have a stock and a switch delete diagrahm posted in my build thread as well as some tips on wiring the tether in

I'm really wanting to get the pro armor one but they do not say if they are normally open or closed, are they universal or do I need to look else wear?

I guess a link would help.

I think it would be best to email pro armor with that part number and see If it's open or closed. I'll drop the link in of the one I got

Good idea. How do you like yours? Any problems with jamming or it getting stuck with dirt and sand?

I've got 4 different Tusk tether switchs. $20 each at rocky mountain atv. Never had a problem with any of them. Most atv's, motorcycles and snowmobiles use a normally open switch, so in turn most switchs are normally open unless stated as a closed. Yamajunks are one I think run normally closed switchs.

Yup. Gotta jump the red to black wires in the harness to run them. And if it's e-start you better not try jumping the red to solenoid-hot and black at the same time. I caught a starter solenoid on fire doing that...

Doesent sound too terribly hard to do.

After some carefull consideration and comparing I decided that I will be going with the Tusk ones that you guys used. I just dont like the idea of the T handle, I got to thinking about how that could catch on things and possibly break off, especially on the tight trails that we ride.
