1985 LT250R a-arms and suspension question
« on: December 31, 2012, 08:42:40 am »
Anyone have a 85/86 LT250R with aftermarket arms and shocks?

I have been looking all over the web and at E2S, can't really get a straight answer, and most info pertains to the 87, 88-90 and 91/92 models.

I am debating on getting some Burgard a-arms, but wanted to know what shocks I can run with them. I want to ditch the stock 12" front shocks for something better. I know Works makes stock length shocks, but I wanted something with more travel. Will any of these bolt-in and ride:

TRX300EX - 13"
87-92 LT250R - 15"
Raptor 250 - 14"
KFX400 - 16"

at one time i had avenger +2 arms and work shocks. it was ok for a month or so then started to get real soft. i sent my shocks off to sandy at works. he called me one day(they are super slow and lost all my paperwork). he told me that there was no way to valve them for +2 and get them to last. he mentioned moving the shock mounts. i wasnt going to mess with all that. i decided to go back with stock arms and added remote resivoirs and had them rebuilt.it rides really well. way better than my stock 91 250. none of the ones u named are direct bolt on and go. some guys have modded others to fit but not me. with all the talk about bj binding and other suspension geometry i said the hell with that. i will just keep stock arms and buy good aftermarket shocks. there has been about a trillion post on this with the same answer but most people dont listen and do what they want. that is my experience with the 85-86 250 and i think its about the best option. u could have iceracer mod your frame with the yfz front end but believe me its going to cost alot. im sure it would be altleast a 1000+ arms, shocks, spindle, hubs, etc.

Rog, I guess I'll just stick with what I have. Maybe I'll try the camber and bump-steer mod and just ride it as is. Better off saving up some money and putting it towards a Z400, or KingQuad 400.

I have some Works with rezzies off my old '86.  They are 13.5" I relocated the upper shock mount to the top of the frame rail like newer models to get a little more travel. I'll sell them for $250 shipped.  I also have a works rear with rezzie, 15.5" I believe. $250 shipped for that one.
