Yes, some sort of spark arrestor is required.  They have been pretty picky on noise this year also. I was just there last week and I had no issues. They just glanced at my muffler and waived me through.  I wish I could be there but it is my weekend to work and they get pretty crabby if you tell them you need a weekend off that is not yours.
