87' LT230E-- upgrades, mods available?
« on: October 13, 2016, 10:39:53 am »
I bought a couple 87' 230's and I want to know what kind of mods you can do to the frame, a arms, shocks, swing arm, maybe a better performing carb to feed a 260 big bore kit.  I've read the rods on these are nutorious for breaking and revving the engine up high is also a bad idea.  I read the LT250R axle will work and it's 3" wider.  Is there an extended A arm option to match the rear axle width?  Don't some years of the LT250R shocks bolt right up.  If I'm doing a big bore on it, should I Persue an extended swinger?  I know I can get a stage 1 hot cam.  Isn't there engine parts on the 230s that will interchange and improve performance?  And I can't find an exhaust to replace my oem pipe.  Remember, it's an 87'!  What kind of motor work should I be considering?  I want more than a 230 engine produces but something that isn't going to be temperamental.

Well, I messed around all night on eBay looking for a part to buy... came across an accessory plug for my 1987 LT230EH.  It plugs into a coupler mounted to the battery cover.  Any idea what I'm suppose to be powering with this accessory power wire?  Are these LT230's a 6 volt or a 12 volt system?

I've done a little reading around.  Will a lt230S head work on a 230e?  Apparently it offers a more aggressive intake and exhaust valves... and is there a super trap exhaust that I can make work for my 87' LT230EH?  I also read a LT250R axle will work on a 230 but it's 3" wider than stock.  Somewhere I saw that you should have as much weight removed from the piston to help with a crank or connecting rod failure.  I also read that you should have the crank and connecting rod worked over to be as true as possible.  The 260cc big bore kit offered by la sleeve is the best option from what I read.  Someone does make a bad get cc kit but it's a little too much on crank bearings and such.  And can you run a 230s cam in a 230 head?  Anybody have any experiences with any of this?

Who knows a lot about the LT230E's?  I've got questions about trying to mount a backup buzzer that was intended for the 85 or 86 models.  And how much lighting can I achieve off a 12 volt 10 Amp power cord.  Is 12 volts & 10 Amps enough for a small winch??  Please feel free to share what ya know
