450?
« on: March 05, 2014, 06:14:47 pm »
i have always had two stroke machines and am looking into buying a ltr 450 o7' and i was told that it has about 35 hours on it and that it sat because owner was in car accident  and the machine was started up every few weeks . what does a tune up generally cost , and is a tune up including getting it shimmed and at that amount of hours does that require a shim job ? i dent even know what i am talking about "shim job " LoL

Shimmed... I believe is for the shim under bucket for valve clearances. Abit of work but way better than the old screw type adjusters. My '06 ltr450 has so few hours I have no idea what they charge for a tune up...

"tune ups" hahaha
oil changes include a filter plus 1800ml of oil, 2 qt of synthetic $18, filter $3
http://www.ltr450hq.com/forums/recalls-how-s-tips-etc/518-procedure-oil-change.html
spark plugs last longer in 4 stokes but a new one about $3
fuel filter, i forgot how much it is.
clean chain and re oil
"shimming" is just checking valve lash, set the motor a TDC on intake stroke and use a feeler gauge to check clearance below cam lobe. since their is no adj stud as with rocker arm set ups, you change a shim under the shim bucket to set your valve lash, to "loose" require a thicker shim.
Intake .004-.008"...i hate std measurements
exh .008-.012"
if you do it all at once, you can do all in an hour
