Need a new pipe + silencer: Dynoport vs AAEN
« on: July 08, 2019, 10:43:42 am »
Hey guys! This is my first post, picked up a 1987 zilla about a month ago and have been reading and updating many of the worn parts, I have now been focused on finding a full exhaust system, I called AAEN performance and they said they offered only one pipe and it was $430 shipped to NC. Also gave a call to dynoport and spoke to Rich the owner and one who runs the Ebay store about his LT500R pipe, he offers a carbon fiber option on the silencer, Black, Chrome. His pipes are created more towards extending power throughout and adding some top end. He said the pipe responds incredibly to porting (any recommendations on engine porters that specialize in the 500 still currently practicing?). What are your opinions on these 2 brands that currently still make pipes for the zilla?? I chose these brands over CT because I heard there were issues with the stinger, anybody have a mint DR Q available? I have tried to get ahold of him on different medias and I am sure he is busy, but the one time I got in contact with him he could give me no date or time for when his new batch of pipes will be ready, so I narrowed it down to Dynoport, AAEN, and lastly I also have looked into Paul Turner Racing pipes with the Fat Boy 2 silencer, can anyone speak of these! Thanks guys!

The Aaen pipe is almost the same as the Q pipe performance wise...From what I was told is was made because some had issues with the Q pipe hanger breaking on the pipe...I had a Q pipe on the Zilla I had and have an Aaen on a hybrid and both work very well.I never had an issue with the hanger on mine and got it used from a member here.Sometimes they show up on ebay...The Q pipe does have more "bling" for looks though. There was also a Dr Q 2.0 that was supposed to come on a little lower in RPM but without as much overrev on top....

Before the Q pipe I ran the PT pipe.It worked ok but Had nowhere near the top end power of the big volume pipes...What kind of riding do you do???

I have no experience with any DynoPort pipes but apparenty the 250 one is a good one...Maybe PM Iceracer on here as he has done alot of testing on the 250 Dynoport,I'm sure he'll have some input on the 500.

Also the "best pipe" available from what others have said is the HPR pipe.....Contact MotorGeek on here,he makes the pipes and also does Porting, engine work...Supposed to be one of the best...

Hopefully some others will chime in and give you their input/experiences. :)
Can,t fix stupid.:)

Jerry Hall recently finished a batch of pipes.  He may have some left.  Arent cheap though.  But you wont find a better performing pipe for a 500.

He personal messaged me!! I asked him about getting one of those new batch Hall HPR19 pipes and a silencer, hope I can get one :)
After reading through multiple forums, the Hall pipe would be my best use of $$. Super stoked to get one, it will be in a works finish! Will be a nice upgrade for my new 1987 zilla that I was finally able to afford and find, just happened to pop up about an hour away from me and right when it hit the market I scooped her up! He wanted 2500, but I ended up talking him down to 2000 flat, looks to be in great condition too, only issues I have found is a jb weld tact on the clutch cover (already bought a 87 polished clutch cover on ebay for only $100) and it has a missing front bumper that looks to have been broken off in a crash because there looks to be that the original front bumper screws were broken off and are still sitting in the treads. Other than that and the chain guard being broken off on the motor case mounts, she runs great! Have some Elka shocks on the way too!
