electronic problem
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:11:02 am »
My buddy has a 500 I am working on there is something wrong with the electronic it runs good till you get to 3/4 throttle then it acts like it is way rich jetting does not help. I changed the stator today and it ran great at all throttle position for about 30 min then the same thing. I did a leakdown test and everything good there

voltage regulator is strictly for the lights.Has nothing to do with the ignition.

Have you checked all grounds and cleaned all grounds?

As Skeans said I,d check the grounds.I had my frame/engine mounts powder coated and would get intermittent spark.Once I cleaned the contact points on the frame mounts and engine I was good to go.

If they are good I would suspect the coil may be breaking down once it gets warm.Do you have another coil around to try?

Check the CDI.  I've seen a new CDI manged to produce a weak spark from a dead stator every 3 kicks or so.  I'd imagine a good stator could help a dying CDI in a similar way.  The manual has what resistances to check or just swap out with a CDI you know works.  Lets us know.
