What Handlebars To Go With???
« on: July 31, 2014, 07:40:14 am »
Im in need of new handlebars..  So far I have been interested in a set of Fat Bars but do not know which bend to go with.  I do like a higher bar.

What do you guys recommend?  Any pictures of your wheeler with a set of fat bars would be appreciated!

Thanks

Is there any benefit other than looks to go with something like the Pro Taper Contour or Renthal Fat Bars as opposed to the 7/8?  Will the 1 1/8 mount bolt up to the stock steering stems?

Fat bars 1 1/8 usually break steering stems if you tumble it instead of breaking your bars. I'm not a fan.

That's an interesting point. If I decide to go with 7/8 bars. I see they offer fixed crossbar and removable crossbar. What's with that?

I agree with buckeye on stems bending before fat bars.  Last month at coral pink sand dunes my retarded friend on his 4mil banshee forgot to lift at top of dune---flat light.  Pinned in third and sailed off into the sunset. Snapped both tierod ends, bent both front rims and cut tire and bent the **** out of the stem...but the protaper fat bars were unscathed.  Bent the stem up top by the bar clamps.

Oh did I tell you that we drove 300 miles for this trip and the ass wipe crashed the first dune. the first 1/8 mile into our trip.  Who does that??   Got the scenic ambulance trip to Kanab utah and broken shoulder, torn rotator, missing one tooth and back and abdominal brusing like you have never seen.  **** his helmet.  Very very lucky to not have broken neck,,,,,  Then he threw up in my truck all 300 miles home because he could not move his arms to roll down a window or open a door before I could pull over every 30 miles.   Can you tell Im pissed at him!!!  glad he is alive

At least when he heals now you can beat his ass Quadman!!

Not sure what you mean with the fixed crossbar unless you're talking about flexx bars? Those would be the only 1 1/8 bars I'd ever go with but they're not cheap.

If you ride a lot of choppy crap we've found the roxx anti-vibe risers and fasst flexx bars work well.

I like the Flexx 12 degree bend bars (not sure on the width) it's wider and it feels like like I have better control.

What I meant by the fixed crossbar was the ones on the cheaper bars. The crossbar is welded. No clamps?  Is that just a design thing?

pro taper cr hi +1!!!! It's a comfortable bar on a quad.  Just the right balance, and they won't break your steering stem.  It's like 4 wheeling... my buddy thought he was hot $hit building an indestructible driveshaft for his chevy... til we got to wheeling and he broke his front axle shaft.   :P  I was taught by a wise old wheeler, always have a weak link that's easy to fix, and keep one in your truck.  Same thing works for quads.  Just my   C:-) 2c

Now.. I may have just been offered a good deal on a Tag T2 with a Houser Steering stem.  The problem is the steering stem is in a YZF450r.  Would that steering stem fit my LT250r?

Yea. Thought so when I started to look at it. I just went to the local shop and settled for a set of fly T6 in the ATV bent for now. Give the local guys some business.
