stock quad racers axle comparision
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:11:03 pm »
Here is a pic of a 250,500, and 450 axle in that order from top to bottom. 450 sprocket/brake hubs fit the 250. Rear hub axle nut from the 450 fits the 500. The 250 axle is a24 spline so banshee hubs fit.the 250 axle is from an 87.  The widest axle its the 450 and doesnt use threads on the axle to lock in the brake and sprocket hubs as used in the 250/500 axle.

Good comparison! Can you post up the dimensions & weights of these axles?

NOT necessarilly,
Look at where the splines are on the axle, there too far apart for the bearings to ride and the hubs will push the disk and sprocket will be way out of line. The hubs could work but I wouldn't buy them new just yet.
Maybe look at 250r/400ex450r stuff. unless you change the whole carrier your going to have a hard time, may not be impossible but don't look good so far. keep trying

For the 24 spline rear axles. Honda 200X, 300EX, 400EX and 450R hubs fit. The 300EX, 400EX and 450R hubs will give you about +3" in the rear.

The 4x4 Suzuki LT250F has 24 spline 5-lug hubs.

I have a bastard year 24 spline axle in my 87 as well. And I think the same damn axle in my 88.

I think the LTR, KFX 450 hubs should fit the 26 spline axle, but I'm not positive on this because I only heard from one KFX450R owner that he swapped hubs.

Well i skipped school today so i'll go out and try it for myself because I put my 200X hub on my 24 spline 87 axle, and it fit,,, i know the 400EX fits the 90/110/200X/1st-2nd gen R's. So We shall see

We used a 86-86 rear axle and the old style 400ex stock rear hub and it would not fit.

My 87 and 88 250 axles are completely different. Different splines, different taper and different hub nut sizes, but they both fit in my carrier. I'd like a set of 4-lug hubs to fit em. I thought I counted 26 on one and 27 on the other, but maybe miscounted. I'll look again.

Chuckie, the Honda hubs do not fit the Suzuki. Pitch of the splines are different, the Yamaha ones do fit.maybe if u have some worn out Honda hubs and a hammer they will fit.

Ok, there are definitely 26 splines on the axle that came with my 88.
Standby for recount on the 87. The 88 axle is heavier and stronger looking.

I sure did miscount. It's 24 on the 87 and 26 on the 88. I think I bent the 87 axle the other day. My wife said my wheel looked wobbly. So which hubs should I buy? Id like some for both axles. Eve the bent 1. Great thread by the way.

Thanks for the offer diablo, but I need 4-lug hubs. What hubs will work? Z400? I'm so confused. I have heard somewhere else that z400 hubs will widen the stance and fit on one of these axles. Wish we could get a solid confirmation on that.

James z400 AND ltr450 will both fit on your 26 spline axle(s). Both will widen the stance too. ltr a little bit more than z400.  (Y)

El diablo is running aftermarket z400 hubs on his 250.they will fit if u have a26 spline axle. Dangerous , both the 250 and 450 axles i measure have a center diameter of 40mm.

i have a fireball alum axle i just got for my ltr 450 has the same diamter as the lt250r 24 spline axle and since the hubs can be moved towards or away from the center by just changine the size of the spacer, then it shouldnt be to difficult go get an alum axle to fit.  when i get home today ill install the 250 axle into an ltr carrier.
