Old Elka stage2? maybe. Comments please
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:17:22 pm »
These came with my 4 wheeler. Looks like old very very worn out Elka's. stage2 perhaps.

-External rebound adjustment on the top 1-7
-progressive wound springs I see
- blown blown blown :)

They look pretty good mounted on the bike. They are the stock length aswell wich I am perfectly happy with.
I understand that old springs can be stress relieved and annealed if put in the oven at 400 degree's F for 1 1/2 hours. I think it works for annealing and stress relief of most steels. I  would only have to look in my Manufacturing University Text book to confirm this. It talks specifically about the springs however.

I am wondering if it is worth 200 to 400 dollars to rebuild these at Elka Quebec?  Im a little pissed right now because the front shocks I really want are out of my price league now. These shocks are worth nothing the way they sit.
What I really want is Fox float R's
-------------
I guess im going to doctor Elka with all 3 shocks. Is that the best thing to do? $85.00 each plus parts.

I would just rebuild them as well, but if your set on getting the fox shocks and end up selling those let me know.
