Production Numbers and Serial Numbers

I was curious if my 1985 Lt250R was an early 85’ or a late 85’.  According to my vin which is JSAAJ11A6F2101405,... it’s either the 101,405th one made that year or the serial numbers started at 100,000... Does anybody know what the serial numbers started out at?

i believe it started at 0.  I want to say someone on here had the #7 500 but maybe it was just on ebay one time.  It was awhole lotta zeros then a 7 at the end.

Then that would mean mine is the 101,405th one made that year.  That seems like a very large production run for just 1 year!  Any clue what each year’s production numbers are?

Pro number is likely 01405 while the 21 indicate assembly facility and option

I would guess that you have quad number 1405.

When I worked for Team Kawasaki our USA production/sales numbers for the dirt bikes typically looked something like this for a given year.

KX 80  2000 to 3000 bikes
KX 125 6000 to 7000 bikes
Kx 250 2000 to 3000
KX 420 1500

I was surprised how low the actual numbers were.  I was told that Honda's production numbers were the highest with around 9000 CR125s with CR80s, CR250s and  CR480 proportionally about the same as Kawasaki.  This was back in 1978 to 1980.  Dirt bikes were cheap back then and local racers would buy at least one bike each year to stay competitive with the latest technology. 

The production line sets up and manufactures all of the 80s that will be made that year, then they set up the line and make all of the 125s,  then the 250s and then the 420s, then they set up and make something else like street bikes one model at a time.

The Motorcycle production plants are not like the auto industry where one plant produces the same model day in and day out for the whole year.  Most of the dirt bikes for a given year are usually made in a few days to less than 2 weeks.   

I have been told that GM will typically make around 500,000 pickups each year and Ford doing the same. 

Kawasaki had a production line in Japan and one in Lincoln Nebraska.  Lincoln Nebraska made the Jet Skis, snowmobiles, KX420s, and many of the street bikes. 

I think that all of the Suzukies back then were made in Japan

I believe this is right.  The J at the beginning indicates the country where it was made.  J = Asia.

I guess mine would kind of be an early model, being @ 1405 of several thousand that year.
