Does anybody sell new frames or aluminum replacement frames?
« on: April 19, 2013, 08:02:39 pm »
My frame was gussetted by my brother, who did a rather poor job.  I'd rather get an aluminum frame but would be happy with a oem steel frame.

Your only option for a new or aluminum frame is a custom fabrication.
There are no more new frames out there, and I don't think anyone has ever built an aluminum frame for an LT.
Best bet is to find a used frame in good shape.

???  I don't want to buy a used frame. I'd rather build my own aluminum frame before I trust an almost thirty year old frame when I'm jumping dunes. If NOBODY makes these things anymore, there must be plenty of people out there who want frames for these old Dino's! Is it hard to weld aluminum? I don't know but I'm thinking about starting a small business.

I've only seen a handful of people willing to pay for a weapon x frame. I really don't see anyone making money on a limited run aluminium frame.
Before you ask,

Good luck.

I'm just sitting here thinking there has got to be a way. That's all. Even if you bought the tubing, cut it to length and bend if need be, take it to a sender for assembly. I don't know how much that would cost to do but I know how much leagers wants....$7000.00 for the Honda 250r.

From what I remember 4130 chromoly, yfz 450 front suspension, full floater and no-link style rear suspension and they were working on a wicked grand prix style rear suspension, any motor, They were quite a bit lighter and stronger than a stock 250 chassis.  IceRacer(carl) is the guy on here to ask about them, he designed them and I believe is putting one together right now. They can also take your stock frame and put a yfz front clip on it.

Here's some info I preened from the old site:

From fasttrackfab...
"The travel is about 10-11 front and back. depends on shocks used and bell crank for the rear. We cut 12 lbs off of stock frame weight, and this is much stronger than stock as it is a thicker wall tube.
"As it is though with the frame with the stem, swingarm and a arms we are just over 40 lbs. Not to bad for .065 wall frame and upper a arms, .083 wall lower a arms with .095 wall swingarm."

There's more information from the old site about it, but your best bet if you were interested is to contact Iceracer.
You're looking at quite a bit of money, and last time I talked to him about it he didn't sound too interested in making another.
Not many people want to shell out that kind of money for a frame, so it gets costly (both time and money) to make them individually as opposed to several of them at a time.

I'm having a little trouble getting pictures to upload here from the mirrored site, so I'll just add a few to photobucket and post:

Now, for the 4130 zilla frame...

Jet Ski is the one who was making it, and I seriously doubt you're going to get a frame from him any time soon.
It started out as a simple replacement frame made of 4130 to keep the same strength but lower weight utilizing all of the stock zilla components.
Then the decision was made to incorporate the LTR front suspension and a better rear suspension.
The thread was started in 2008, lots of inactivity and years without hearing a peep, then in 2012 he posted that he hoped to have the frame ready for the dunes by the end of the year.
That would have been last fall, about the time we all found ourselves without a home.
Maybe he's completed the frame and has nowhere to post the info and pics, I dunno.
We were all waiting on him to finish the jig so he could start producing them for consumers (us).
I'm sure he's still working on it, but I have no way to contact him.
I'll see if I can find some way to get in touch with him, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
No pictures of the frame itself could be found...

The last pic I seen of jetskis frame, it was all complete. Single round tube lower member for the a arms to mount off of.  But it had the oem chain adjustment system which seemed a step back considering all the round carrier styles out there.

Thanks for looking wtk
