91 lt250r topend polished and being sent to IceRacer
« on: December 15, 2014, 05:01:07 pm »
Well after 2+weeks at 3-4 hours a day I finally got my jug, and head sanded ,and polished. Now I am sending it out to Ice to let him do his thing and bore it over. I am rebuilding the complete atv and I'm polishing the whole motor from top to bottom myself. So heres what we got done so far and let me tell you polishing the jug and head is a very time consuming matter as you have to get rid of all the ruffness and casting marks first before you can even think about polishing anything!

Looking great!! Plan on polishing it after every ride if you want it to look like that forever. I polished my side covers and it's hard to keep up.

Thanks. I am going to clear coat it with a high temp ceramic paint once I get it all together. That will help to keep it looking good for a few years with only having to wash it after every ride. But once the clear gets scratched, or starts to fade then it starts looking like crap and you have to sand it all back down then repolish and re clear it. Ive polished rims for a good while now but this is my first motor. I use clay bars starting with a black rouge to cut, then a jewlers red rouge to get rid of any scratchs, and finish with a white diamond to put the super shine on it. It didn't cost me nothing but time since I have well over $600 invested in all my polishing equipment from years ago when I did my Harley, and was doing rims. But I figured since this is my winter project what the hell I will waste some time by polishing every piece of aluminum on this thing lol.

Looks Awesome !  Definitely Clear coat it so you won't hafta keep polishing it after every ride.

Especially if you use Super Clean or other harsh soaps, It'll dull that beautiful finish in just 1 wash !

All he has to do is touch it up. I didn't want him rounding off all the gasket surfaces after I machined them.

Thank you all  ;D I almost have the whole quad ready to go back together after only 5 months of hard work. I have taken ever little piece apart, repainted/powder coated, along with all new gaskets, bearings, and everything that was aluminum has been polished, from the motor, bumper, grabbar, nerfbar's, and rim's. I am just waiting on it to get warm out and stay warm as this whole build was a basment build and I can put it together to fit it out the door lol it sucks. I also made my own stearing stem as the one I had was bent bad so I just orderd some chromoly tubing that the top and bottom would slid into after I cut them off the old stem and even made it a +2, along with getting +2 out +1 up a-arms, I got some brand new 20x11-8, and 22x7-10 tires on the way. I also replaced every hose or rubber with the blue silicone even the radiator hoses. I even bought the new blue vent hose for the carb that gives two up and two down with new clamps. Anyway sorry it has been so long since I've got to get on as I been putting all my extra time on getting her ready. I got the whole motor together and sitting on my dresser in my bedroom lol so I can see her every morning I wake up. I will get some new updated pic's on here as soon as possible as I have taken many. I can't thank Iceracer (Carl) enough as he really did a awsome job on my top end and has been so much help throughout my build, and even when I might of had a stupid question he never treated me like to dumb ass and answered everything even for me a newbie to understand, as this is my first quad, and rebuild ever. So thanks everyone for the compliments and its not the best but I think I did pretty good for being my first motor I ever polished, wait to you see the rest even the swingarm looks good. So to be continued once the weather stays warm P*

It's been a bit of time since your last post...
Just curious of how you made out with the rebuild?
Did you get it all assembled? Let's see some pics !

Love that fresh polish look!  I remember when i got mine back and it looked like that.  Little dull these days though.

I'd recommend NOT clear coating.   In my experience, not worth the hassle of having to remove it down the road to re-polish.  Plus, the second you get fuel on it, it yellows.
