1990 lt250r
« on: March 01, 2014, 01:25:11 am »
Hi, i'm thinking about buying a 1990 lt250r. it looks to be in decent shape. I'd be getting a great deal on it. I was wondering what are some common  problems with these quads? Hows the power compared to a yamaha blaster? Really just any info thats good to know about them when i go look at it.

Almost double the hp of a blaster. Thrust washers are common problem but can be fixed with billet washers and 99 rm wrist pin bearing. Can buy in forum store. Just give it a good look over

The swing arms also tend to crack in front where the swing arm bolt goes through.

flip it up on its rear grab bar and look to make sure its straight, you can look
around a arms and front grab bar mounts for cracks on frame, check foot pegs to make sure they
dont have bolts that go all the way through. oil around shocks this means leak, springy rear shock also means leak.
pull on tires to see if a arms need new bearings and ball joints. lift on steering stem to see if it has play.
all this stuff can bbe fixed but it will cost you more money to fix it right. check under the water pump there should be a hole
make sure there is not a screw or some rtv in it. this means water pump seal is bad and they tried to fix it the wrong way.
oil around front sprocket means bad seal and make sure shifter shaft it straight. seemes like a lot of stuff. lol but it should help you
find the right bike for you.
