a question about my bills pipe
« on: January 19, 2015, 09:33:20 am »
I have a 86 lt250 and it has a bills pipe and silencer on it that the previous/original owner said the pipe has been on since the early 90's. It does have a little carbon buildup in the end going into the mid pipe but i f its been on 20+ years it doesn't seem too bad. Here's my question is there a lifespan on pipes? Any ways to clean the carbon? Would a new FMF outperfom my bills pipe? Does any pipe silencer come with a new midpipe?

The pipe should last the life of the quad really.

To clean the carbon out, you need to put some cleaner in it and let it soak then wash it out.

I tried oven cleaner degreaser nothing seemed to get the build up off. I was using a flat head and a Lil hammer to break it off .

Cap off one end, fill like 3/4 with gunk hydroseal 2. cap off other end. Let sit over night. next morning shake the pipes around for a while. Then drain the pipe. Use kerosene to wash the instead out. If possible, use a pressure washer and shot it in there all around. Then wash again with kerosene to stop rust from happening.
This should get some out, but to get all of it out, I am not sure.

I'm not sure how it works on carbon build up but toilet bowl cleaner works GREAT on the outside to get the rust and other built up oil off, might try it on the inside.

If you do let us know how it worked.

I've had some luck with dumping in a can of Seafoam and a handful of BB's then shake it around for a bit.

I removed my silencer, ran the motor, and I noticed it was blowing out black liquid.  Am I using too much oil in my gas?
