water pump weep hole.
« on: May 03, 2015, 10:47:06 pm »
So wheh I bought the bike I noticed it was leaking water. Looks like it was coming from a clutch case bolt. I pulled the clutch cover and installed a new oil seal. Pfessed out the impeller and seals. New oil seal mechanical seal and new seal on back of impeller. I didn't replace the bearing it seemed smooth and tight. Also didn't replace the washer with rubber on impeller bolt. I blew in the hole for impeller it seems sealed.

Noticed water dropping out weep hole when I ride. doesn't seem like the impeller washer with rubber would make a difference. What gives hers. It's not a stream Just some drips. Also the impeller shaft pokes out past impeller. I read that could be the problem and also i should use bar leaks. Idk what to do here. What's leaking and what should I do?? Pics attached.

New seal might leak at first but should stop, if not Suzuki says to put leak stop in it.

And yes the rubber coated washer can cause leak, we have found out that you need to put some rtv on washer and bolt when you put water pump back together. And make sure rubber washer is in good shape.

The ceramic seal seldom gives any problem.    90 % of the leaks are caused by guys trying to make their own version of the special sealing washer.  The 1st three pictures show the problem

.....................Yes the shaft protruding above the impeller will cause water to leak between the  SPECIAL RUBBER FACE WASHER and the impeller.  The rubber faced washer will bottom out against the end of the protruding shaft and prevent the rubber faced washer from sealing against the face of the impeller.  Replace the impeller or grind the end of the shaft so that it is even with the surface of the impeller.   The special rubber faced washer also has a rubber lip in the hole of the washer so that coolant cannot go between the smooth shank of the bolt and the hole in the washer.  Suzuki knew what they were doing when they made the special rubber faced washer.  Go to a Suzuki dealer and order the right parts!!!!!!!!!!!

Do not scratch the surface of the ceramic or the carbon faced ring.  Remove the ceramic seal and the rubber cup from the impeller.  clean any grit from the inside and outside of the rubber cup.  Clean the the socket in the impeller where the rubber cup fits in the impeller.
