Con rod deflection
« on: November 01, 2019, 05:56:37 pm »
Hi guys, new member here.  I have a question, searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.

I have my 250r torn down for a frame-up resto.  I was checking the side to side deflection of the connecting rod, measured at the small end.  The service manual gives a spec of less than 3mm and mine measured right at 2.5mm.  What I'm wondering is: Is this "well within spec, good to go" or more like "barely within spec, will be out of spec soon, do the bottom end".

Could anyone tell me what kind of deflection I would expect to see on a brand new crank/rod/big end bearing?

Thanks in advance

g

What is the exact procedure that the manual gives for measuring the small end deflection?  I have seen errors in some of the factory manuals for this procedure.  The small end deflection procedure can be misinterpreted on the LT250 and LT500 since they do not have conventional thrust washers on the big end of the con rod like most two strokes.
