Kickstarter kicking back
« on: October 12, 2016, 07:46:14 am »
Last week I developed a no spark issue after a weekend of riding. Turned out to be the pick-up coil went kaput. I had a spare one and it fixed the no spark issue. Set timing to where it was before. Now the kickstarter will kick back, or seem like it developes great compression about halfway through the kicking cyclye. Not every kick, but more often than not. It will still start and run great, but it hurts my foot and it's not right. I've been over the thiming and stator and electrical with a fine tooth comb. Any input? Not sure if the pick up coil it installed is oem or not, but looked new.

I've had similar kickback issues when mine was jetted way too rich

Also another thing that popped into my mind, is if the pickup coil you used is not OEM, perhaps the sensor is in a slightly different spot than the OEM one?  I might try retarding the timing a bit and see if that helps

It's definitely not too rich. Maybe a tad lean with the cooler temps. I will adjust the timing and see it it makes any difference.

if all you changed was the pick-up, i'd assume that's your problem.

Problem fixed. I had the timing advanced just a little but. About 1 mm past the marks. Fires up first kick again with no kickback.

haha yea, doesnt take much to make it kick back.  I've had my foot and a pair of tec8 riding boots destroyed from kick back.
