Know what the deal is on the big reed cyl on 500's but was wondering on the 250's. Is it the same? Big reed better top end small reed better mid?

Havnt really messed much with 250s myself but had a buddy that claimed its not even comparable thats how much better the 87 is.
Similar, I don't think personally the 87 is any better to use on a 250 unless your porting for maxx hp and don't care so much about response, I think it takes @ 300 cc to utilize the bigger reed cage. At least from what I have found up to this point.
I guess i shoulda added that the buddys 250 was a dedicated drag racer also.
I also think the v force reeds closed the gap between the two cylinders, reed flow and low lift tip area can make a big difference, the percentage of tip area is closer on these reeds than standard v block cages.
small reed 250s use the same reed cage as the zilla and a small reed zillas can easily make 70whp with some good porting. if the reed cage isnt restricting to a zilla with 2x the displacement the differences between the small/large reed in a 250 will small. so i would have to agree with ice man where you need to have more displacement to take advantage.
Will the big reed 250 bottom end power suffer at all due to its size? Just trying to determine which cylinder to build.
I am curious to know about Reed spacing. I see some Honda 250s with a big spacer and some wothout, what advantages does this bring? Do the lt guys use them as well? I haven't seen anything for Reed spacers on here ever, or for sale. I have v force 2 with carbon reeds on my small block motor. The v force has a slightly larger spacer than stock but my brother in laws Honda has a spacer that's about 1/2 inch thick before his reeds.
From Honda's certain models of reed blocks cover the boost ports if I remember correctly so they use a spacer to un cover them.
The 87 are the same way, the 88 and later barely need any spacer to clear the ports with a VF 2 or 3. I mainly use them to get the intake to bolt to the carbs better depending on setup.
Thanks for clearing that up. I thought maybe it let the air and fuel create more of a vortex or something like that, and flow faster into the cylinder.
