Not to hijack this thread, but related enough to post here rather than start a new thread:I too have a bunch of black stuff leaking out of the exhaust area onto the frame an front of the engine. I've replaced the seals on this bike twice, one with some cheap seals and then with some higher quality winderosa seals with no real difference. I even changed out the o-rings on some of the collars, etc... What else could be causing this is not the engine seals? Also, to answer thread starter's last question, you can find schematics for your engine in the Clymer repair manual, or if you go to an ATV web store like www.rockymountainatv.com and go to "OEM Parts" you can find schematics under your bike's make & model.
Okay that makes sense then. I'm running an ancient FMF Gold Series pipe on the bike. As long as I'm not burning transmission oil then it's no big. Thanks.
My 85' also leaks out that black sponge stuff. I installed new springs, and the Orange high temp stuff. It still slowly builds up black residue. I just accepted it and didn't know my FMF on there could be oringed. BUT THEN AGAIN, IM WAITING IN LINE FOR AN FTZ PIPE! I can't wait till they start making them again.
Know where I can find a machine shop in Y-town?
