Tex, that is partially true, but I don't wait for the mfg to tell me yes or no, if its something I have in stock, and we've tested it, then I send one out, and THEN I go to the mfg.
I've warrantied stuff for guys who haven't even bought from me, I've warrantied a guy who got burned on a group buy in a bum deal, and I warranty stuff like endcaps and brackets and such to guys who never bought them from me in the first place, and ship on my dime, because word of mouth business pays more dividends than a paid sponsorship on a forum.
