Cut out the lower portion of the center tube ahead of the engine and weld in a wishbone. Or wack it all out and add two straight tubes up the sides where the engine mount plates want to go. Just look at a 87 + frame pretty simple.That's really the only major modification.

BlackndWhite, I'm looking at doing the same thing. The only mods to the frame are just as Iceracer said cutting out the down pipe and welding it into a upside down Y then making motor mounts.

You would also need an 87+ carb and CDI box. Best way I've thought of doingit is to cut the frame piece out so you can set the motor in the frame then place the parts to be welded on then remove motor and weld. Its actually a failry simple task IMHO.

the wiring harnesses are close enough that an 85/86 harness will work with a couple small modifications o the kill switch wires to move them away from the throttle housing. In my build thread i have stock and cut down harness diagrams posted for reference and for if you want to eliminate lighting circuits.

Everything should still work the same, Just splice in the 87+ CDI box to the correct wires. the newer motor can use the same stator as the older. the only thing that I'm not sure about is if the older throttle cable will work with the newer carb.

Pretty much all the bearings are the same from 85-90, chassis wise.

Look at the tenth letter in your vin on the frame.

F = 85
G = 86
H = 87
J = 88
K = 89
L = 90
M = 91
N = 92

I think the plug would be fine, same goes for the stator. But you will need the carb, cdi, carb boot and reeds and cage from the newer bike.

That's the same boat I'm in right now. Slowly picking up parts, and rebuilding the motor.

Ok going to bring this back from the dead... haven't done anything with it and today decided to finally get going on it. ..
Just want to clear some things up... the back of the motor mounts into the swingarm
then can someone give me some measurements on where the down tube meets then rest of the frame so i can put the new piece in the right spot...
