Z400 brakes
« on: July 16, 2013, 09:44:28 am »
I've read about guys using the Z400 spindles and brakes on the 500's but couldn't find anything on the 250's.  Do they not fit?  If not what is the problem......ball joint taper, ball joint length, spindle height, clearance issues?  Just curious on why nobody is doing it on the 250's.
Let the good times roll.....

I changed a arms on my zilla since using z400 spindles/hubs, the oem a arms/ball joints bind at full suspension droop limiting downward travel.

I have no info on the 250 swap

I believe Carl -AKA Iceracer- does.  Wasn't it was simple as adding some shims?  Can't remember.

The z calipers were supposed to slide rite on the sliders I think. Remember reading someone swapped them around. There still single piston though so I never messed much with them.

If the Z calipers work then that means YFZ calipers should work because they do on that conversion on the Z's.  #1>

So do yfz spindles and hubs work? Or is the hot setup z400 spindles with yfz calipers?

yfz calipers on z400 spindles.
The hottest setup you could get is yfz dual piston calipers, 450r master cylinder, and steel braided brake lines the 2 piece setup (http://amstarmanufacturing.com/FrontBrakelines.html) Instead of having the splitter both lines bolt right onto the master and go directly to the calipers.

yfz calipers on z400 spindles.

That's the set up I converted to, along with a z400 master cylinder.

Z hubs require shorten I g and machining of the spindle to go on yfz hubs slide rite on  and just need the brakes spaced properly. 4-8 washers and longer bolts and your in. Its here somewhere.

I'll just stick with the yfz hubs I have.  I was just thinking about the z400 cause I have z400 hubs on the rear and I could have kept a Suzuki bolt pattern on both ends.

You use the yfz hubs on the factory 250 spindles.  There is a write up on it in the 250 chassis section.

No, the z spindles are too short for yfz hubs. The oem LT spindles are what Im talking about. I did a write up, it's in the 250 chassis section as a sticky.
