Title: New to the Lt250r game, my build thread.
Post by: Weldurrr on October 17, 2021, 03:53:22 pm
Howdy there, I just picked up a 86’ Lt250r and I wanted to start a thread of the build.  Gonna see what kind of performance I can milk out of the first gen. I’ll be posting progress here often

We're doing the same with an 87. Doing a stock build.  From what I have been reading the LT isn't the best choice for engine modifications. They have their faults. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211018/e6bb685838966a6d602b829fa8e7b7ff.jpg)

The 250's respond great to modifications and are a solid engine...........It's the 500's that have issues right from the factory and need more work to make them reliable when increasing the HP.

What is the head mod all involve? Is this something you send out to have done?

I could be wrong but don't think it's a necessity like the 500's.......But yes the head mod is sending the head out to get it machined.

When you have the cylinder ported, many times the head is modified also. It can be milled for more compression, and/or the dome shape changed. It depends on what the porting guru wants to accomplish.
It's not a necessity on a stock 250, IMHO.

Sorry for the hiatus, works been super busy.  So Ive been compiling parts before I strip it down and send things to powder and my top end to rich at dyno port.    Got some +2 full flight arms, and elkas on order . But they’re like 16 weeks out…  using some rpm billet ltr450 hubs, spindles and brakes.  Picked up a fmf pipe (all  I could find, for now).  Also switched to some spare hubs from one of my atc’s .  Gave me 1.75 inches extra per side with 4/110 bolt pattern.
