Title: Front wheel size

hi everyone.  The front wheels that are on my 88 LT500 are 5.5 wide.  basically a 2.75+2.75 offset.  Anyway the tie rod ball joint is 1/4" away from the edge of the rim near the bead.  I want to buy new rims and ive found that DWT makes a 3+2.  Wouldnt that basically put "more" rim toward the center of the machine therefor making the ball joint rub the rim?  I know people buy new rims all of the time without any problem.  Am i missing something?? thanks for the help?
