Title: Re: will it run with bad stator?
Post by: Q2W on April 04, 2018, 11:28:15 am
i replaced a bad CDI once that made the bad stator kinda function.

Other than that, 9 times out of 10 it's a jetting issue.
Title: will it run with bad stator?

hey guys, i have an 88 LT500 and have tore it down to every nut and bolt and redoing everything.  Powder coating, plastic, new hardware, etc.  Before i took it apart, the machine would start and run, but not run well.  This could have been a number of reasons.  Carb was dirty, it needed a new top end because it had low compression, there was a tiny leak between the cases, the wiring was hacked up.  BUT, it did start and run.  The low end was rough but got a little better at mid throttle.  When i took the machine apart, i checked the resistance on all three coils of the stator and they all had readings that were way out of spec.  So i thought the stator was bad, but if it was, would the bike have started and ran in the first place?  thanks for the help
