The nut should come right off if it is loose.  Can you post a picture or video of it?

I was trying to remove the nut off my clutch basket to see if I could get down to my shifter issues, the problem was that the shifter wouldn't engage into any gear. And it moves about a inch in and out of the case. I went to remove the clutch basket and the nut came loss but it wouldn't come off I went to try to spin it with my hand either direction and it feels the same. not sure it I stripped it or what? HELP PLEASE! YES I KNOW~! It threaded to the right and I first impacted it that way.
