Laddbg , the frame opens up pretty far when you pull that bolt out nothing to worry  about  it will draw back in.  I have an 85 and i have rebuilt  everything on it .  I was also concerned             about how far the frame spread when i shot the bolt out with air ratchet,  but drew back in nicely.

ahah ok. that makes more sense now.

One thing I always tried to follow was the original part diagrams from part websites like rockymountainatv

https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem-schematic/7 here it is for the cushion lever (never knew it was called that)

and if that doesn't help I have the manual for the 85-86 LTs, ltz400 and the 87+ LTs as a download here

Thanks Dutch Rutter for the pics. I was actually looking for a pic of the suspension linkage that the top part of the shock mounts to. Guess I wasn’t very clear, the parts book call it a cushion lever. I was actually able to look at one over the weekend and there are no spacers on his either so I guess I have it back together OK.

Thanks again

Replaced the bearings and seals in the cushion lever on a 85 lt250r the son and I are reworking, so its been a part awhile. The gap between the frame and the sides of the lever seem wide. I don't remember any spacers when we took it apart and the parts breakdown does not show any. Am I missing something? I would not have expected the frame to spring out that far when it came out but I don't remember. Could someone look at their 85 and see if this is correct?
