Reeds on the 85 and 86 motors are under the cylinder. Here is a link that you can download a manual for your bike, this will help out a lot.

From what I have learned when jetting these bikes is to do small changes at a time. So I would leave everything else as it is until you get the new jets in and then go from there.

Also, are the reeds like in the cylinder behind the carb if you take carb off??

whats up guys, just got an 85 lt250r. First one ive ever had. Very familiar with 2 strokes-have had a ton of banshees.

Anyway, bike seems to be mostly stock, with just an FMF silencer. Needle was on 2nd clip from the top. Air screw was 1.5 turns out. Only issue is the jets dont have any numbers on them so I have no clue what jets they are. Dont know if they are just the stock ones or what.

First thing i did when i got the bike was oil change, cleaned air filter real good, cleaned out carb and jets, and new gas. Bike starts in one or two kicks with good compression. Put new plug in. rode the bike up and down the street like twice and got on it pretty good. first gear seems kind of boggy--doesnt really get on the power band until i hit second gear and up. pulled plug and it was black and wet. Running VERY rich it seems.

I ordered carb rebuild kit so i will at least know that the new jets i put in are the stock size. Should i leave needle on second clip from the top? Air screw at 1.5 turns? Im guessing i prob wont have to move jet sizes too much if bike only has fmf silencer on it.
