Well I believe that my issue is something entirely different. I started to work on it then got busy with a lot of other stuff going on. I now have no spark to the plug, so when I get time to tinker with it I'll be checking my coil and stator and all these lovely cable connections. Then once I get this solved I'll be checking it out again for jetting and such.

Where did you get your jets from. If you bought a carb rebuild kit that dont mean its all right. I would tear the carb down and drop it in a can of chem dip . Clean it all off with a can of carb cleaner, chase every passage with air. then look at the jetting with the magnifying glass. Just to make sure it has the.correct jetting.. then make sure the air cleaner is clean and trim both ends of the plug wire. That should do it. I put a br8eix in mine after i rebuilt the entire engine. It has about 9 weekends of hard riding on it from near 100 at the dunes to 20 degrees out. I haven't put a new plug in mine since i got done tuning it. Plug color is perfect mixing mine at 32:1 with 93 octane and amsoil dominator. As someone else said tuning is done with the fuel curve and the timing curve . Any other method is a cover up.

Not much will wear out on a carb. The slide could wear out, but that will take a lot of use. The seals would need replaced like anything that is rubber.

Never change your mixture to dial your quad in. Use jets to do that. Don't listen to that guy or you will be buying more than a $3 plug. Stay at 32:1 and jet it properly. Br8es plugs is what I use or. Br9es No need to go hotter than that
thanks for the quick response. That is exactly what I thought, I'll keep jetting and checking. I've been using the Br9es. Is there anyway to measure to see if my carb is just old and worn? I know the slide has a tolerance, but is there anything else that can wear out with them? my jets are new, and I believe them to be pretty close to correct because of the way it runs, but I could be wrong.
Also another thing that concerns me with the carb is that if I leave the fuel switch to on without it running, it will leak through the overflow (I believe this is because the float height needs adjusted) could this also effect the rich fouled plug?

I just grabbed 2 new plugs the are NGKs I cant remember the number off the top of my head. The bike shop owner said they were the hotter plugs, I was also running race gas mixed with Silkolene oil at 32:1
I pulled the plug and took it in to him. Its very dark and looks like the color of the Silkolene oil more than anything. He suggested mixing to 40:1 but I don't think that is a good solution to a possible worn or badly tuned carb. I have a strong feeling that the carb is worn, and I should look into getting a new/good replacement.
Q2W said it though, it was not feeling "blubbery" at the top end or anything, so I wasn't thinking that it was rich, but when I get this dialed in it will be a even better.

Your jetting is off. You should never foul plugs.
Great looking ride though! Just think you still have some power to gain through tuning.

Florence is pretty fun, I prefer Winchester Bay anytime though. It's about another hour away from me. I'll be going there for Dune Fest this year, that should be a blast. I'll try and get a better Go Pro to take some videos while I'm there. I also want to try and make it out to Glamis but that wont be happening anytime soon.
Overall I was very happy with the LT it ran a lot faster then I thought it would. I did learn that I need to keep a surplus of spark plugs on hand, at least until I can figure out whats causing them to foul so badly, I was able to get a good solid and hard 4-5 hours of straight riding before this one went out. I also need to tighten my chain a little. And put my yellow and blue seat cover on.
What plugs are you running?I never foul plugs on my 250 since I got a decent carb and dialed in.With my old sacked out carb it would foul if it idled too long and die as soon as I went to take off.

Well it has been a long process but I finally was able to take the finished LT to the dunes. Here are some pics, it was pretty cold but worth it. Not a whole lot of people and the sand was pretty decent.
The wife took the pics, I'm horrible at taking them.
