Later models plastic will work with a little trimming under the seat around the air box or the seat latch.  I just did it to my 86'.  A little patience and a dremel tool is all you need.

I just picked me up an 86 lt250r last weekend and it needs a little work done to it. I just went completely through the motor and rebuilt it from top to bottom so it runs like a champ but now it needs some cosmetic work. I was wondering if fenders from other years would fit on it or not... I'm new to the older Suzuki stuff so wasn't sure and also wondering what the best website would be to buy parts for it.
