My dad had a Keihin, I think was a PWK on one of his backups and we finally gave up trying to tune it and swapped on a used Mikuni we had left over from another project. 5 lt250r and every one has a Mikuni on it now.

Post by: Beukelman on August 02, 2020, 07:48:08 pm: Got some new tires for my LT to replace the originals from 1992. I’d post pictures, but I still cannot figure out how. I have some on my Instagram under the same username. I figured out what why it wouldn’t start. One of the killswitch wires got cut on the upper radiator support. Fixed that, and it started! Went down two sizes on the main jet and up one size on the pilot. Runs a whole lot better now. No more massive bog at wide open. The carb I have is a 38mm Keihin PWK AS from a 1995 KX250. The body seems to be very worn out, because I can move the slide side to side and front to back a good amount. There is a lot of scoring where the slide moves up and down. I don’t think anyone cleaned it until I got it. So, I think it’s time for a new carb. Here is the question though: New 38mm Keihin, or 38mm Lectron? What do y’all think?

Post by: Beukelman on September 28, 2019, 07:38:14 pm: I finally got my LED TRX250R intake for my 92 LT250R in the mail yesterday. I made a bracket for it, and mounted it up to my Keihin PWK 38 today. Ran the quad for the first time with this carb system. The jetting I started with was 45 pilot, 180 main, and middle clip position. It was around 35 degrees today in North Idaho, and it rained/snowed all day. My ride was rather short as I wasn’t dressed for a cold/wet ride. I upped the pilot to a 48 which helped a bit, but the jetting is still off. Tomorrow, I’ll probably ride it a bit more and dial it in. Riding in the snow was a blast, and the open element filter saw hardly any moister hit it. I would post pictures but I cannot figure out how to use the third party picture hosts like Tapatalk.

I have a PWK 38 on my 87 using the stock intake boot and airbox...I had to heat of the intake to get the carb in,used a pipe expander to carefully expand the carb to airbox boot and moved the airbox itself back slightly.....I can post some pics if it helps.......I'm just not sure if the later LT airbox is the same as my 87 has a different rear suspension setup with the link in it.

This is using a 500 angled reed/carb boot obviously
Are you sure the 500 airbox to carb boot doesnt work?

It is too bad that there is no coverage against water, because I will be riding in the snow and ice quite a bit when winter hits. It should be ok. I can figure out some way of covering it if need be.

My major dilemma right now is on how do I fit a 38mm carb on here? I tried boiling the stock boot, and it kind of worked. Extremely tight fit though. Even still, my airbox to carb boot is messed up. I have a zilla intake, but the carb angle is different. The airbox to carb boot from the zilla doesn’t clear the shock either. So I’m not sure what to do. Running the airbox is preferred, but not necessary. Anyone have suggestions?

The lower balljoints need to be for a 400ex that fits aftermarket a-arms, because the OEM 400ex lower won't work. Now I just need to find a set of wheels.

Removed Nerfs Will redye netting when I make up my mind on color scheme...
Removed Junk Thumb Throttle and cable. Last thing I need for Carb that was just dangling by cable...
Unboxed Motor and discovered serious problem with sprocket guard bolt holes.
Inspected all top side components. Most of which are going in the trash. H-Bars are junk. Control levers Junk.Radiator Junk. Wiring Harness Junk.Half a tank of spoiled premix in the tank. JUNK!!!!! about the only thing worth a turd is the DG front Bumper and fresh rebuilt Suspension.
Spent a lot of time looking at Motor and referencing Repair Manuel.
Organized and Inventoried all my new parts that i pre ordered. Bolt kits Break pads clutch cable ect. ect... and started a list of all components that will be going to Powder coat with Chassis
I also Cussed a lot drank a few beers and some what organized tools.
Not to bad for 2nd Day

She may not be as glamorous as other 85's but it's very solid and a labor of love for me, my brother, & dad.
Everything in the motor is new, I actually found a low profile rear fender, FMF, rear cooler rack, all new suspension bearings... seals... buffers...slides, New Nissin rear rotor, topped off with a star spangled seat cover...

And I just now realized that the pictures I posted on Facebook of mine, is actually my wife's Facebook account... which is set to private.... I'll try to post them to my Facebook... 1 minute!!!

Post by: All American on November 11, 2016, 04:06:38 am: I chained all my four wheelers together and then padlocked em down to the buildings' wall!! Lol. And I spent the night looking at 85 & 86 LT230Es' optional equipment from the factory. I bought an accessory power cord that clips into a harness next to the battery, 12 volts & 10 Amps max! I also found a backup buzzer that I may be able to install on my 87' 230. I'm planning on adding lights mounted to my rear rack facing all different directions. And I believe I have found a front rack for my 87' LT230E!!!!!! They are effing hard to find but I believe I found one for around $70.00

I left it parked in my father's garage and the dumbass bent the **** out of the rear brake rotor putting his engine hoist between the sprocket and the rotor.

Post by: 99Redgtp on November 07, 2016, 07:41:15 pm: I unloaded it out of my truck. Replaced one of the caliper bracket bolts that got scared and jumped out. Then I ripped it around the yard a few times, pulled it in the garage and attempted to align the front end.

I also tore the ice quad down for a revamp. Fresh paint on everything, bearings, brakes. Motor work. Should be good as new when it's done.

Valve was stuck in the full throttle position at all times. Now I know what a two stroke powerb and feels like

Buffed the rear low profile fenders with some rubbing compound. getting everything ready to receive a nos oem swinger that's never been used! It's more like putting a down payment on it cause it's about $600.00! But it will make my restoration look a lot better.

One of these is a swing arm pivot cap and a dust cap for the swingarm pivot bolt. And did anybody know you could get plastic plugs for the front grip? I also found 2 different styles of a rear brake master cylinder guard on eBay. I bought the one that is sloped and tubular. It has light rust which can be sand blasted along with my frame. I paid almost $20 on the swing arm pivot cap. Now in blue! It's going to look nice! I found somebody locally to powder coat.

Post by: 92lt250wannabe on August 24, 2015, 03:41:21 pm: I cleaned the vinyl on this awesome seat i scored recently, put in new pilot and main jets, dropped the motor off at the local shop to have the crank installed, (i was gunna do it myself and get the tool but i want to get it up and running asap and with work and kids and waiting for shipping figured it was my best bet.) wile i was at the shop i also ordered a bunch more stuff. installed my brand new oem thumb throttle (screw that motion pro twister) wiped down some parts with aluminum polish so they are ready for install this week.

last week i painted my cases and cylinder and head. (not today but oh well.) i will get some updated pictures when she is back together.
