Title: Re: Would like some advise on what to do about my head gasket problem
Post by: Aint No Nancy on May 07, 2015, 08:00:41 pm
Well I took the head off and noticed a small crack in the exhaust bridge so its going to be sitting their for awhile.

Need to save up some money so I can send it away and have it fixed and checked over for warps and a leaky sleeve.

I'm bummed. Got so much time and money in this bike and only about 3-4 hours of riding on it

i used the bleeder screw ontop of the cylinder head and let it idle many times with the rad cap off and if the coolent was below the fins it never puked.

their was bubbles in the rad with the 1st gasket but with the 85-86 gasket it quit. but now since that gasket has failed just kicking it over makes coolant fly out of the rad when cap is off.

if you remove the radiator cap and rev the motor, do you see bubbles?

Are you sure the system just didn't "burp" air out (first time after rebuild)? That would be ok.
If it burps everytime it gets hot, you have a problem

I never noticed them coming out when i changed the gasket but will make sure they are still tight and in place tomorrow afternoon.

Are the studs pulling out of the cylinder?

compression was 190, is that to high? could that be the cause of these gaskets not lasting long and pressurizing my rad?

My radiator on my 92 was getting pressurized after putting my engine together with oem gaskets and it would puke out like a cup of coolant then stop once it was under the fins. it was not burning coolant and ran amazing by the way.

did a rad pressure test and it held 16lb for over 20 mins

So I installed a oem 85-86 head gasket since my piston is 69.25mm thinking air was going under the gasket and into the rad since my piston is bigger than stock gasket accepts and it seemed to be less pressurized but that gasket failed within an hour or 2 and started burning coolant so my bike is parked now waiting for me to do something.

i was going to buy another 85-86 gasket and using a different head but maybe i should just tear it apart and send to someone??? to have it checked for warps?

i read that air could be leaking around the sleeve and if it is, is that fixable without putting in a new sleeve in?

my cylinder is ported and I don't want to have to scrap it and start over.

if i need to send it out who could i send it to?

if it is leaking around the sleeve could I get it nikasil plated and keep my porting?

I just am not sure what to do at this moment and need to talk about it

sorry for asking to many questions at once

thank.
