Title: Re: 87 -88 head compatiablity
Post by: Quadster on March 30, 2015, 08:53:11 pm
87 cylinders are 5 studs and so is the head and the 88-90 has a 6 stud cylinder & head so 87 cylinders ONLY work with 87 heads.

If you have an 88 cylinder you can use a 88, 89, 90 head on it as they are all the same.

I would recommend here or ebay for a 88, 89, or 90 head to match your 88 Cylinder.

Its not a 500, a 250.   87-92 250 all have 6 head studs.

The shape of the dome is different between the 87 250 heads I have  and the 88-92 heads I have.??

for OEM parts always look at bikebandit.com and another I recently found was mrcycle.com that is where I got all of my washers and seals. for a cylinder head I just recently broke down and bought a cool head from ebay since my 90 head was trash. it was $140 and I got the 21cc dome.

Hey all. Havent been on forever. Can I run a 87 head on an 88? Ive noticed the shapes are different. Anyone done it?
The lower crank washer/s went out on the 87 and messed the head pretty good. Cylinder doesn't look bad at all, but will need bored. One of the aluminum thrust washers was worn about half the thickness(probably happened when the lower went out).
I have a fresh bored 88 cylinder/piston but only have a good 87 head? Where is a good place to get new washers and crank bearings/seals? All ready have a new crank.
Thanks
