Yes you can adjust ignition timing on the stator. ive done it, dont recomend it. kicking a zilla over with a max timing of 27* kicks back very very hard.

The timing tab and the pickup coil can be placed in any position around the crank such that it gives you the correct timing for engine to run. Lt's just happen to be located at @ 4 o clock. Trx is if I remember correctly about 1 o clock. Both systems give a similar timing at startup all that matters is the capacitor is charged and pickup relative to the timing tab to be correct for intended timing.

I answered this question for Bret on the phone so I will answer it here if anyone else has the same question.
The capacitor in the CDI box is already fully charged before the trigger bump on the flywheel is close to the pickup. I do not recommend using this method to change the ignition timing but the pickup coil could be moved rather than the whole stator plate to change the timing

I have a quesiton; is the timing of the motor based on the location of the pick up coil?
I know there is the mark on the stator and on the case which you can adjust but does the actual timing come from the location of the pick up coil on the flywheel.
Since the whole stator moves and the p/u coil with it relative to the flywheel, I'm deducting that moving the P/U coil around the flywheel moves the timing?
