How did you perform the plug chop? Theres a certain way. Post some pics

I did a plug check and the plug is a dark brown/black

Don't forget that adding more oil doesn't make it a richer mixture.It actually leans it out.(that's correct isn't it)

i ride from 35 degrees Fahrenheit to 85 degrees Fahrenheit i do change the oil ratio to 32:1 in the winter and 40:1 in the summer i also give it more in in the winter

it has stock jetting but i dont ride in the cold alot

The jetting is great advice for this lil guy.. Thats prolly were you should start dude, jetting to small will blow your bike up real quick!! you need to take that carb apart and spray with carb cleaner then can check your jet sizes and jet appropriatly. Maybe take some photos so we can see this bike and some of these parts

but you dont really know when its going to blow couldnt it happen at anytime.
Honestly, if you take care of them it's rare for them to seize or blow.
Not always the case because things can and will happen beyond your control.
Go over the stickies on the site and learn how to jet properly. Most of the time, they blow because of incorrect jetting.

You shouldn't have to replace pistons every year, huge waste of money.
What you should do is check compression after your rebuild. Once broken in, check compression again. Keep a notebook of these notes.
Check compression once a month or every other month. Record data. If it stays the same or less than a couple psi drop, i wouldn't worry about it till it is 10-15% less than original broken in psi. Even then, usually new rings and hone (if piston to wall clearance is good) will work. Shouldn't have to worry about piston till you need to bored it out.

It all depends on how you ride it, what oils you use, and overall how well you take care of it.
If you ride weekly or so, best thing is plan to replace the piston or just rings each year with maybe a hone. If a hone won't clean up the cylinder, you'll need to bore it.
If you have excessive wear after a year make sure your jetting is right, make sure you're using a quality oil at an acceptable ratio. Maybe you ride hard and enough that it will require a piston and rings every 6 months? It's all up to you really.
Don't wait until it explodes or you have low compression.

Dude you should post more!! It gives us stuff to talk about and ppl to learn.. Garantee you guys look this stuff up for help even though they domt post for help. Ask away. I check this site daily for info and ppl to help if i can.. Practice is the only way to get good at these bikes so work away and trial n error.. Always double check your work and use the manual

Honestly my cousin had a trx that he rode for 10 years with no rebuild. He talked about it all the time that he never had to rebuild.. Then ive seen bikes like my wifes blaster only last 1 dune trip and it fried the piston.. What im saying here they are all so different by the way they are built together.. If its built right it should last..its hard to go off hours so a visual inspection and seat of the pants feel is what you can use to try n determine if it needs a rebuild.. Best way for me is plug up exhaust and carb and shoot 6psi of air and spray with soapy water and see if you have bubbles from any gaskets/bolts/connections.. If you do i wouldnt ride it id replace all top end gaskets. Just search leak down test and can even make your own thats what i did

i have a 92 lt250r and i was wondering how long the top end would last if the bike was maintained and not riden hard. it still has the stock top end on it but i know it has low hours on it im thinking maybe 20 hours of trail riding. i run klotz oil in it with a 40:1 ratio. How much longer do you think it will last

Even though it has compression doesnt mean compression isnt low.. Need a gauge to tell.. Also i would never wait to let it blow up thats just more stuff that can be damaged and more money!! Try the first advice given with the compression test.. Could even try a leak down test but that can be a pain sometimes.. If your low on comp or leak air it needs a rebuild!!

She has compression it starts with in 1-3 kicks

It has never been rebuilt but it sat for 10 years and when it was ran it wasn't ran hard I'm not sure the hours but it's not a whole lot

Never wait till it breaks, its just add expense to the rebuild. When was the last time it was bored and got a piston. How many hours are on it?
