, all i did was just measure it up once swingarm was fitted .Heated it up and squashed it in a vice to match the other end .Drilled a hole for the bolt ,cut and grind it round to match other end .Nothing scientific i know ,but it looked and worked like oem!! No re welding !(hope we are talking about the same part :)

just cut and reweld? how much did you end up taking off?
-
you need to shorten the brake stay arm . i just shortened my old one instead of buying one .

I'm not opposed to using shims. So now the question is should I upgrade to the newer or start working on a custom tube swinger.. probably both, get the newer and run that while I'm fabbing so I can use the 86 swinger as a guide for my jig.
Would I need to get the newer brake stay bar as well or will the older one work?

The 86 linkage will work on the 87-90 swingarm youll just need to use some shims on the bottem dog bone I used some washers
-
Hey dutch got linkage if you need one.
-
You will need the 87-90 linkage for the swap

So after reading through some posts I found that it can be done, but I am wondering if I could get away with using my 85 shock as well as my 85 axle with the new style swingarm and carrier?
That way I can keep using my shee rims, hubs, and tires.
