Also you could have tried "tapping" on the loosen side of the nuts with a hammer. Kinda "brute force" ish but that's how I did it the other day when I took my axle back out lmao I've had decent luck with that method

good deal, you could have got it by your self if it was still on bike. if you didnt have anyone to stand on brake I have put a pry bar between  the holes on sprocket and swinger to help hold it. sucks tho when your lifting entire quad in the air tring to break them loose by your self.
i put some grease on the threads on mine before i put it back together so you dont have this problem again.

It's all apart now! The wife got home from work and ........kidding! Soaking it all night with penetrating oil worked wonders. I had my kid stand on one end to keep it from moving and leveraged away I went.  It finally broke loose.  Took the right side most of the way off then went and did the same thing to the left.  What a pain! Note to self.....always loosen axle nuts before tearing swing arm off the bike! Would have been much easier. Thanks guys the support and comments. It is amazing how being ridiculed can make a guy work that much harder!

Oh yea Tony,I defintely learned as well. Gunna make doing these 2 Tri-Z'sand 350X a whoolleeee lot easier. Made it a lot easier on the 450R too

After my 1st resto, I learned.  When buying a bike that's been sitting....  Soak all nuts and bolts w pb blaster on first day... Basically whole bike.  Do it again next day and let it sit again.... After 3-5 days do it again and start loosening every single nut and bolt.  Don't remove them completely, just break them all loose while bike is together.  Having the bike together helps so much and makes it easier to steady it w the really stubborn ones.  After they are all loose, then start removing parts!

LOL!!

I took and did the same mistake when i was rebuilding my bike. Pulled the swinger before the axle. I took and put the rear wheels back on then ratchet strapped the brake side wheel against a pole REAL tight so it wouldnt move. Then got a big pipe wrench and a piece of pipe to use as a cheater bar.

big ole cressent wrench and a breaker bar always works.
i have had someone sit on bike with there foot on the rear break to help hold it still.

I knew I was opening up a can of SH$T here!!!  The swing arm is off the bike that's probably why I am having so many issues. I appreciate all of the advice even the smart ass comments. Keeps the build fun!!!  I will have to wait until the wife gets home from work to get these pulled........

Get a mapp gas torch and heat the outer one. Get two good big adjustable wrenches. Put the tires back on heat the nut again. And place one wrench on the inner nut and against the ground. Put the other longer one on and give it hell. I've had to use a pipe to do itbefore


If that doesn't work take a cut off wheel and cut in about half to 3/4 way through and smack it good with a sharp chisel that should break it. Once the outer one is off the inner should come off relatively easy. Then just get a new nut.

You may be better off having a machinist take care of the issue. Mine is probably in way worse shape and it's been said on here it can be fixed. My 86' swinger broke on the chain side around the bearing housing. Split about a 1/16 of an inch or better maybe. These are getting kind of hard to find unless you want to jump on eBay and pay $120-$250. Even then you take the chance of finding cracks after it's already been paid for and good luck getting your money back. I'm saving my swinger and will have it fixed in the future when I'm rebuilding it.

Any suggestions on how to get the axle nuts off? I have never seen them so tight. I have them soaking with penetrating oil now.  Not sure if they have ever been taken off. Maybe I'm just being a Sally!

Does anyone have a spares wing arm they are looking to sell? I went to change the arm bearings and it looks like one side is pretty chewed up. The left side has big burrs in the aluminum. Not sure if it will be useable as the bearing races won't fit tight.
