Title: Re: V2 Reed Cage and reeds
Post by: Christph7 on November 17, 2013, 07:37:02 pm
I noticed that a lot of the discussions about reeds on this site are about the V-Force 2--the older design.  Is that because it is better than the V-3, which I believe is available for the LT 250R?  Is there a reason to go with the V-2 rather than V-3?

Also, I'm wondering if anyone can offer feedback on the V-Force vs. the Boyesen Rad valve?  Is the Boyesen better for bottom end, whereas the V-Force offers more top end?

DO NOT CUT THE EARS ALL THE WAY OFF!!!!!! They need to be trimmed way down, but do not cut them all the way off. It will create a flat spot in the engine. PM me your number, i'll send you a pic of exactly how they should be done per Iceracer.

Pictures received, Thanks!  I took this project on to sidetrack me from the tuning issues of my 87 zilla.............plus I always wanted a 250. Thanks again. I am sure I will have more questions along the way.  Gonna try to get this done to be able to take it to the dunes in January for my birthday. Doubtful but here's to trying!

Thanks guys for the info.  I do appreciate your time in helping me out.  Wanting to get everything lined up, modified, or fit so when the powder coating is done, I can drop the motor back in the frame and light her up.  PM sent Grkguy. Thanks!

You can use a razor utility knife to cut them off, works well if you wan to leave a tad of the ear on as mentioned earlier.

Yes, take the ears off flush with the gasket surface.  A side grinder works good, just take it slow and use a light hand.  The stock gaskets will still work just fine.  I have a post up in the 250 motor section titled name that reed cage and there is a pic of a intake boot with the ears removed

no they wont work, just sell them to me. 50 bucks sound fair.

there are directions in box, they tell you to cut them off with hack saw. then you need to trim them to fit flush. i think the new way is to leave a bit of the ears on so it helps the air flow better. just enough to make them fit snug

Stock gaskets fit great. Some intakes on bikes/quads don,t use a gasket from OE but I always run them.

Are the reeds used?If so be sure to check that all the screws are tight.I bought some used V2,s and was surprised at how loose some of the screws were.Better to be safe than sorry.

So all of the way off? That is what I was missing when I talked with iceracer. Does anyone have a picture of what they look like after trimming? Will stock gaskets work? When I took the old one off the motor, no gaskets at all.  Black sealant of some sort, but gasket free.

You have to trim the ears off the intake boot

So Iceracer confirmed for me that these are V2 reeds.  On closer inspection, I am not seeing how this will mount to my stock manifold. They look they the bolt pattern is correct, but I just can't see how these will work together. What am I missing? The PO said they were for a lt250r.  The ears on the manifold in no way shape or current form will work.
