Did you line up the punch marks on the kick start shaft and pawl?

ok so i dropped a washer form the power valve into the bottom end and i took the clutch cover off got the washer put the cover back on and the kick start makes a clicking noise on the way down and the clutch arm acts like it is disconnected it pulls in but wont go back to the normal positon did i do somthing wrong ?? <1>
